I realize virtually NO ONE will read this, but I'm hoping against HOPE that SOMEONE will read this and it will somehow circulate to the powers that be.. assuming of course they actually give two sheets. WHICH is a YOOGE assumption.
Hey LBSU Administration
Do you have ANY idea what Long Beach State USED to be like 10-20-30 years ago in terms of athletics and school spirit from the students and alumni? Any idea? Buehler?
Do you have ANY idea the damage you've done not only to the brand but to how your alumni feel about the school over the past 10 years?
Sure it's nice to state the school has a great nursing program, school of gerontology, shark research lab, etc, but at the end of the day do you really believe this moves the emotional needle one bit in terms of donations and school spirit?
Im guessing that answer is a resounding "NO" and the alumni association more than likely can point to a flatline of contributions as well compared to other schools and institutions.
The past decade has been virtually one entire cycle of "treading in water" while other programs have lapped the Beach. It's simultaneously embarrassing, disgusting, exhausting, and somewhat humorous to observe. I have three kids, I met my first wife at Long Beach State. I made great friends at Long Beach State. I used to have season tickets to Basketball and Baseball for 20 years. I and my friend group were active in the alumni association, we traveled to away games, we gave money. My sister went to Long Beach as well, same story.
Ready? Guess what? I no longer have season tickets to anything. When college choices came, not one of the 15 kids my kids know went to Long Beach, neither did mine. Same story with my sister.
What happened? I'll tell you.. You DROPPED THE FREAKING BALL. Period.
You went cheap on coaches and kept others WAAAYY past their expiration date (looking at YOU Monson).
Good news?
NIL IS HERE!
You can, if you want, rectify and change this situation but it's going to take courage and intestinal fortitude and a go-get'em spirit to make changes.
THIS IS A ONCE IN A GENERATION OPPORTUNITY. DON'T SCREW IT UP.
Get alumni involved, get NON alumni involved, get famous Long Beach residents involved, get ANYONE that reps the LBC involved to sponsor MBB players.
"YOU CAN DOO EET!"
Want to see alumni pride return? improve athletics.
Want to see donations skyrocket? improve athletics.
It's NOT TOO LATE.
The alternative? keep doing what you're doing and have no success in a forgotten conference, playing forgotten schools. You might as well drop down to D3 at this rate and save a shit ton of money.
I haven't worn or bought any Long Beach gear in 10 years because there hasn't been a reason and quite frankly it's embarrassing being seen and having to explain why I choose that school.
Give me a reason... please..
Hoping this resonates with SOMEONE.
