I do believe in their mind they think they are leading or leaders, after all it's in their job description. But there's nothing they've actually demonstrated leadership on. The Prospector Pete thing wasn't leadership, that was classic middle manager least common denominator decision making. I can't think of one thing Jane has distinguised herself with or done to enhance LB's reputation (academic or otherwise). unfortunately, particularly Andy, he's a modern media-brand-yourself-first-#####. just peak at his twitter every now and then - it's nothing but trying to 'brand' or market himself in PC correct and visual images of 'leadership', taken right out from the modern social media playbook. it's just how people operate now-a-days. Market yourself first. Cegles of course was old school, and for all his faults, he certainly didn't make 'branding' of himself a priority like Fee does.
I don't think Fee is worst possible AD, but also not certainly that distinguished, and rest assured he's doing everything possible to set himself up for a P5 AD gig or a UC AD gig if possible or something similar.
I'm sure his resume takes credit for 2 VB national championships that he had basically zilch to do with. I think he'll be gone within 3-5 years if there's any way he can get an associate AD UCLA/USC Pac-12 gig or potentially another better paying AD gig. Not intending to offend any mid level managers, private or public sector. I do think you have it about right as to what most mid managers do. People posting on the other board often talk about how they used to evaluate performance of people that worked for them. They sound like most of the mid level managers that worked for me. They want to check boxes and mostly not rock the boat. Those posters talk as if Joy, Dan, Andy, or Jane are mid or lower level managers. They are not. They are highly paid civil servants sitting in jobs that are more like CEO positions. I look at them from a board of directors view point and, simply, without completely disregarding due process, either they perform to my expectations or I'm going to role out the black ball. It's show biz baby. You either perform or you are out. I know who LB State is...and I know if a coach or AD or Pres has success here they will likely move on. But. when they do, they will face the same rigor, satisfy your constituents or you will be out. Doesn't matter that you are a really nice guy. You must perform. LB State remains an attractive job for a lot of coaches and administrators and LB would still have lots of good options. Joy has failed here. So has Dan. So has Andy and Jane too. We do not have to accept this on the hope that maybe somebody will have one good season. Yes....I am pissed about the MBB home schedule. Andy & Dan should apologize. I am angry with Jane for caving on issues that mattered to the alumni. Pete offensive? Come on! I am so discouraged around the lack of accountability for "upper" management at LB. I can't be alone.
