that could be the new york, boston and montreal row that was started, but never completed....there was supposed to be a connection from carmel to dutchess cty --the ndc line, then connect to different lines, the rutland--then canada....the project went bankrupt...check out bernie rudbergs book on the nd+c...amazon had it.....where did you see the line branch north ? where in carmel ? thanks
