As a result of this legislation the AWDF has asked all of the delegates to aquire pictures of working dogs in social situations from there breed clubs accompanied by Handler/Dog name and titles. They will use this as ammunition in fighting the legislation. Along with bite stats they gather about trained dogs.
Please, post any pictures you have of your working dogs in social situations. And I will forward them. Don't forget names and Titles!
Thanks!

: Thanks Bless for the information below:
:
: Below is the definition of "vicious
: dog" from the proposed ordinance:
:
: Vicious dog. (1) For the purpose of this
: section, "vicious dog"
: means:
:
: (a) Any dog which has attacked a human being
: or domestic animal one
: or more
: times without provocation; or (b) Any dog
: with a history, tendency or
: disposition to attack, to cause injury or to
: otherwise endanger the
: safety
: of human beings or domestic animals; or (c)
: Any dog that snaps,
: bites, or
: manifest a disposition to snap or bite; or
: (d) Any dog that has been
: trained
: for dog fighting, animal fighting or animal
: baiting, or is owned or
: kept for
: such purposes; or (e) Any dog trained to
: attack human beings, upon
: command
: or spontaneously in response to human
: activities except dogs owned
: by and
: under the control of the police department,
: a law enforcement agency
: of the
: State of Tennessee or the United States or a
: branch of the armed
: forces of
: the United States; (f) Staffordshire terrier
: breed of dog; or (g) The
: American pit bull terrier breed of dog; or
: (h) The American
: Staffordshire
: terrier breed of dog; or (i) Dogs of mixed
: breed or of other breeds
: than
: above listed which breed or mixed breed is
: known as pit bulls, pit
: bull dogs
: or pit bull terriers; or (j) Any dog which
: has the appearance and
: characteristics of being predominately of
: the breed of Staffordshire
: terrier, American pit bull terrier, American
: Staffordshire terrier;
: any
: other breed commonly known as pit bulls, pit
: bull dogs or pit bull
: terriers,
: or a combination of any of these breeds.
:
: Section 1(a)-(e) clearly identifies a
: "dangerous dog," and there is
: no need
: for the breed specific language contained in
: subsections (f) through
: (j).
: Adding the breed specific language is not
: going to create a safer
: community
: and, in fact, the language of the ordinance
: as proposed can actually
: harm
: the community by giving the residents a
: false sense of security. As
: we all
: know, "dangerous dogs" come in all
: shapes, sizes and BREEDS.
: However, this
: ordinance implies otherwise. This ordinance
: deems pit bulls
: dangerous per
: se, while giving other breeds of dogs the
: opportunity to be deemed
: dangerous
: based on their specific behavior. Owners of
: pit bulls would
: automatically
: be regulated by this ordinance, while owners
: of other dogs would
: only be
: regulated if their dog were deemed dangerous
: by their individual
: behavior.
:
: So, my request to everyone is this... please
: write a very short,
: simple and
: consise letter to the Rockwood city
: officials. **No further
: educational BR>materials are necessary.**
: Please encourage the passing of an
: ordinance
: that deems dogs dangerous based on their
: behavior and not based on
: their
: breed.
:
: If you have a short, simple and ENFORCEABLE
: ordinance that can be
: tailored
: to fit the needs of this very small town
: with very limited funding
: for
: animal control, please send that to for the
: city officials for their
: review.
: This is a small town with simple people. I
: heard over and over that
: last
: night they want to keep this simple.
:
: Points your letters might include:
:
: (1) How will the law be enforced with one
: part-time animal control
: officer?
:
:
: (2) Who in the town will identify a
: "pit bull?"
:
: (3) Have they considered the financial
: burden on the shelter and
: animal
: control department?
:
: (4) Considering the size of the shelter,
: where will the dogs be
: housed for
: the days and weeks it can take to resolve
: each and every individual
: case?
:
: ( 5) How much funding will be set forth to
: care for the impounded
: dogs?
:
: (6) How much funding will be set forth for
: legal fees incurred for
: challengers of the law?
:
: (7) Why not word the ordinance such that it
: addresses ALL dangerous
: dogs,
: not just those that fall under the umbrella
: of a certain breed?
