Certainly, safety measures will be necessary. I can imagine that many owners with good dogs (that would likely put on a spectacular show) would be likely to pass without them. Since learning that Baha is more concerned with the vert wall (and I believe it to be a valid concern) I've come up with a few ideas in which handler error can be minimized.
As for those that don't have medium size, springy dogs but would like to compete, I wouldn't be oppossed to it - just cause the dog isn't able to get the same numbers as the smaller dogs, so be it. In looking for others that do this stuff, I found a video from Europe featuring a few Rotties - didn't look like the dog was at a signifigantly greater risk becuase of its size, the show just wasn't as amazing.
And I agree, any time a bunch of pit bulls are in the same place, it's going to raise red flags with those willing to make rash assumptions - can't do much to stop it, except educate whenever we can. I was at an adoption event last summer, in the parking lot of an REI, only to have the police show-up - MANY calls were made complaining about pit bulls running loose in the parking lot.
