As a non-pitty owner (for now LOL) I think it would be in the WPBTCA best interest to support as many working events as the breed can do. IMO one of the reasons AWMA has not grown very big is because they are so focused on Sch. I have supported them via membership, but other then being able to get scorebooks from them I really don't feel I get any benefits by joining. They are a Schutzhund/Malinois club. Well, I have Malinois, but I don't compete in Sch. And I don't see that there is any support for anything I am interested in, ie the ringsports, PSA, herding, obedience, etc. Even a BST would be a reason to maintain membership in the club. If another organization were to start up, that was a Malinois group but supported ALL the venues Malinois can be found in, I'd join that one in a heartbeat and probably let my AWMA membership lapse.
There is a large population of pit owners out there who are not interested in Sch. I understand, and agree with, the WPBTCA desire to affiliate with AWDF, it's a smart move. But the organization should look at how they can pull in the people who are doing things with their dogs, just not Sch. The more members, the more workers you have for events :-) Also the more dues people are playing, which allows the organization to do things like sponsor teams to attend large events, hold other local and regional events, market the organization, have a printed newsletter, etc. A registry that listed all titles, regardless of the organization that awarded them, would be a benefit also, I'd love to see that with the AWMA for my Mali's. With the number of pit owners out there, the WPBTCA membership should be in the 1000+ range. I don't know what it currently is, but I don't think it's that high.
