I believe part of the reason why others may want to start their own "Working" association is because their work is focused in MANY areas, not with protection a priority and with little emphasis on SchH. We should keep in mind, fact is the WPBTCA was created for our breed to secure a slot with the AWDF which is a highly recognized and respectable organization. GREAT for our breed overall (affiliation alone!), but again we have so few (out of the BIG picture) that are really focused on just SchH.
This has been a topic of discussion amongst many...do we stay small with the handful of serious SchH/PSA/Ring/PP competitors that we currently have and focus on them preparing their dogs to be the best at their events. Or, do we reach out to accomodate the fanciers who work their dogs (and work'em hard!) but in other areas that perhaps we (SchH/PSA/Ring/PP) may have little to no interest in?
Personally, I think the idea of more working groups is fine. I want to play in ALL of it! Besides, we can look at it as an opportunity to promote. They have their competitions, we
support their events with entries and donations. Maybe do a demo of our own if they want? Not much different then the PSA peeps going to Ring, SchH to PSA, etc. etc. We GOTTA give a little love to get a little love!
Besides, when we find that one special team, wherever they might be, we do our best to try and groom them to prepare for the AWDF team. Which IMO is the "Big Daddy" breed showcase! Even if that means complete financial support. I have no problem sponsoring a strong team to rep our breed at an event of this caliber!
Speaking of AWDF - I hope all will join me in wishing Ron the BEST of luck at the Championship "Battle of the Breeds" this weekend!!!
