i just recently designed a very elegant and inexpensiive idea for my own wedding. our theme is 1john 4:19 (we love because he first loved us) and our colors are plum and gold. i bought a piece of vellum paper from the scrapbook section of michael's (or ac moore or joanne's) that had an embossed design with a very fine touch of irridescence in it. vellum is a fine trasnsclucent paper that comes in many colors, designs, with embossed surface or even metallic touches. i then wrapped the piece of vellum around a cylindrical vase and secured it with a piece of double sided tape at the seam. i used a 12" vase. i then tied the vellum covered vase with a generous piece of tulle (any ribbon would do) in a loopy bow. the beauty of it is that you drop a pillar candle down in and when it lights it flickers through the paper like the light is coming up from the water and it casts the most romantic glow. i also tucked a little flower in the bow but you wouldnt have to. for you wedding i thought of this cool idea... you can use vellum in the computer printer so you could print up your favorite corinthians verse or part of on the vellum before wrapping it around the glass vase. you can even do little votives and just put part of the verse on each at each setting like..."love is patient" and use themn as favors. you can buy the silver-gray vellum in stacks at office max. i bought very victorian vellum with a variegated peach background because it matches my dress. i got the vellum for 1.99 a sheet, candle a 1.00, tulle 2.00 for 10 yrds, vase 2.99 all at michaels. so it costs about 6.50 to make but if you use a smaller vase and plainer vellum it will be about 3.00. if you have any questions or i'm just babbling and this doesnt make sense then e-mail me.
