My opinion on favors is that they are a traditional part of a wedding, but not everyone will even take them home at the end of the night. Non-food favors tend to wind up in junk drawers, or worse, in the trash unless the recipient is exceptionally close to you and will actually keep it as a momento. Even edible favors aren't a universal hit: At my cousin's wedding, she had candied almonds wrapped in tulle and inserted into white organza pouches with silk rosepetals. Very beautiful, but there were SCADS of them left on the tables at the end of the night. I hate to think of the time and expense she went to, and so many people just left them there. The most simple, inexpensive favor that is the most likely to get taken and used is to wrap some chocolate candies (Hershey kisses, white M&M's, Andes mints, etc.) in a square or circle of tulle and tie with curl ribbon. If you cut your own squares from tulle fabric, that is the least expensive way to go. And if not everyone likes chocolate, someone else will be happy to take their favor home and enjoy it.
Thanks to Natalie for posting my rosebud favor!
