I'm a decorator and do lots of wedding receptions. What I find is the easiest and safest for the ceiling are the xmas light outdoor holders. These are used to hold lights to the roof of your home. They slide into the ceiling brackets without damage. And they can hold a lot of weight. I've put heavy pomador balls on them with no problem. Hope this helps you.
