Posted by Celtic Sprite et All on 12/20/2004, 7:59 pm, in reply to "..he's never where you'll think you'll find him.." “Fine lady?” she said, laughing. “Dearest Halifax, I have never been what anyone could ever possibly consider a ‘lady’...least of all ‘fine.’ The grand breeding belongs to you alone, Love.” His distraught expression was not disguised, and the dam turned her own vision to seek the subject of his. Taken aback only a moment, Spritey tilted her head in natural curiosity at the stranger apparently lodging within their terra. The new lass was not unpretty in the least. Staring intently at Alte, the wolfess felt her heart twist in a sudden pain. If the fae had eyes of clover and a face of innocent resignation, she could be a mirror image of the ethereal beauty borne and lost to their first litter. She was clearly frightened and nervous, the ivory femme determined. Gradually, as though longing to preserve a sense of denial, Spritey’s spring-green eyes fell upon the small huddling of pups. She inhaled sharply, casting a sidelong glance at her mate to discover his reaction. Thanh’s approach distracted her, however, and she turned her face to acknowledge his presence. He was as flustered and rushed as the strange female was nervous and shamed, she noted coldly. Her expression was one of profound disappointment when it settled upon her grandson. For almost the first time in his life, the lad was going to be chastised. “Actually, no,” she stated curtly, eyes still measured and unreadable upon Thanh. “Perhaps you would like to expand upon the introductions just a tiny bit more? Exactly who is this young girl, Thanh? I’m assuming the litter with her are yours, and if so, why are you out cavorting around instead of tending to their needs like any responsible father?” Spritey realized how chilly she sounded, and while she was clearly upset with how Thanh had handled the new situation, she wanted to make certain that the femme knew she had no part in that grief. “Go further inside, Dear,” the dam encouraged Alte, her voice much warmer. “Don’t let the babes catch cold. They have been born at the most unfortunate time of year; you’ll have to be especially careful about their health.” Returning her line of sight to settle upon Thanh, the now great-grandmother awaited a reply. Mirai and Tsuka’s heads lifted in unison as Thanh sped by. The snow-sprinkled brute couldn’t help a snort of laughter, shaking his top. “What a git, he’s in fer it now,” grunted the ebony wolf. Tsuka grinned with gentle malice. Thanh had often made her jealous in how readily her mother always forgave him. The former trouble-maker of the group, she was quite delighted that, for once, she would not be the one receiving a stern talking-to. Joukai’s eyes flickered back and forth between the siblings, his ivory and flame-touched body all but hidden by the thick drifts of snow that had cushioned his fall. Rolling to his belly, the brute scuttled through the soft ice, seeking escape from the playful torture of his aunt and uncle. Tsuka returned her attention to the little Thorn and would have continued their rough play had a fierce snarl not interrupted the activities yet again. Mirai was standing with his skull lowered and hackles raised, the snarl having originated from between his clenched jaws. His cloudy eyes scanned the land they could not see, but his ears had picked up the low-toned growl and his nose was vibrating with the scent of a stranger. A stranger whose presence made every inch of the young male’s hide stand on end. Much to his sister’s shock, the disabled brute took off like a rocket after Roux’s trail. The trees and brush proved little obstacle to Mirai d’Halifax, his feet as sure and swift as any sight-holding canine’s could ever hope to be. ((*hugs Khazzy* Heyla! Spritey’s bright emerald eyes glimmered fondly when they set upon her mate, and she dipped her head obligingly at his canine “kiss.” The nuzzle was returned next, her muzzle buried for several moments in the soft fur at the edge of the brute’s face. He was always warm and comforting; she felt everything fall into the right once more as she stood silently in his embrace. His question probably would have been ignored, if only to preserve the sanctity of their moment of reunion, but she found herself grinning with a quirked brow at the title he granted her.
