"Thanh!" Spritey cried out in protest. He needed to be alone, she understood that...but she needed him here, close to her heart, to remind her of Manasseh.
The dam turned to Halifax, her own face grief-stricken as he moved closer to her. Burying her muzzle just as close to his neck, she shook her head against her mate's self-admonishing.
"No, Love," she murmured, her voice choked with the tears that mingled into the brute's midnight fur, "Manny knew how much you loved him, how proud you were of him. He was grown, Hali...he knew how to fend for himself. It's not your fault...never your fault. You're a wonderful father, always have been, always will be."
She pulled away then, staring him straight in the eye and affectionately nuzzling the hair at his cheek.
"I couldn't love you as much as I do if you were anything less," she breathed, closing her emerald gems against the pain.
Joukai shrank back further, if such was even possible. His wide cerulean eyes locked with those of the wolfess, utterly stunned and at a loss of what to say. His jaws flapped open and closed, but no sound made an exit. Mirai caulked his head at the unusual silence, grinning slightly.
"Yer ugly face's scarin' 'im off!" proclaimed the brother, smirking at Ani.
