I let between 30'to 80' of line out depending on if I am running flat lines or jet/dipsyes off back. I'll then wrap a medium rubber band around line and attach band to downrigger release. Then just take ball down just above marks, letting line from reel pay-out. Set drag and fish! Hope this helps, also check out TIPS section on this site lots of info.
