I chose not to have an operation when offered it because of the risks involved and because now problems are starting to show up with people who had surgery 20 or 30 years ago. The alternative route I chose to go down was the Katharina Schroth method. This is basically an intensive course of rehabilitation exercises. I reduced my curvature by 50% from 42 degrees to 21 degrees and have maintained this correction for the past three years.
