If it were my neighbor, then I would get her to another doctor. Her rods shouldn't have come loose. I keep hearing horror stories about rods breaking etc. and it shows that not all spine surgeons should be practicing. Get her to a better doctor. Ask around and find out who is the best in your state/region. Ask your doctors who they would send their mother to. She shouldn't have to live with the pain and since she's getting close to 60, the sooner she gets help the better.
