Posted by Kristina I had spinal fusion for my scoliosis when I was 18. (I'm 27 now.) For about 8 months before my surgery I was in terrible pain. I was in college at the time and I would walk out of class before the end because I couldn't sit anymore. I remember going shopping with friends and trying to find anything at all to sit down on while they browsed. I'd come home after a long drive and as soon as I walked in the door I'd lay on the floor. My curves were both close to 50 degrees (one a little more, one a little less). So, you are definitely not the only one with pain. I donated 5 pints of blood and they used 3 of them. The first time I donated, which was actually the first time I had ever had blood taken from me at all, was absolutely awful. The nurse was new (although I didn't know that at the time) and she made my arm bruise badly. I came really close to fainting. However, by the third time, it was no big deal at all. I could watch the whole time and didn't feel queasy. I was able to go out of my house and do some chores about a week after my surgery. Not for the whole day, but for a few hours at a time. By 2 weeks, my doctor had me on an exercise bike for 10-20 minutes at a time. I would say that within 4-6 weeks, you will probably be able to go back to work, at least part time. I'm a lawyer too, so I now how much sitting we do. I'd suggest taht when you first go back, you should force yourself to get up every 30 minutes and take a 2 minute walk to prevent your back from getting stiff. You might get taller- I got almost an inch taller Good luck!
