Hello, my 14yr old son, Thomas has a 62 degree curve starting at L1 up. it's a short but sharp curve. It has been suggested that he have anterior surgery. He has no pain from it, he is a very good little golfer. They say it will only get worse and if we wait, the correction won't be as good. We have seen two drs. the first one recommended we see about two other drs.(he doesn't do anterior) We saw another in our area (Jackson, MS) and in Aug we will go to St. Louis, MO for Dr. Keith Bridwell. Our decision is do we do it, what type and who does it. They say anterior so that it won't involve as many vertebra to give him more flexibility in his golf future, but can't say it won't curve above or below the fusion. Saying if it did, they would just go in from the back later. Well, I was stunned, and wanted to say "You get one chance with my son". Let's get it right the first time. They also stated it is up to us and said posterior is more stable with a better chance of fusion. But it would involve more vertebra going to L2 and one more at the top of the curve. Also, I wonder how will he feel when he is 50 or 60 and his bones are older. Does anyone have any input as to which is less painful and better recovery, etc...? thanks, Carol (concerned mother)
