If you had the surgery 2 years ago, then your hip pain isn't normal. After having bone removed, you can experience a lot of pain (probably more than from the fusion itself); however, over time the pain should go away. If I were you, then I would go back to see the doctor (if it's possible). I can't guess why you are still having the pain but I don't think it's normal and you should ask your doctor about it.
