I understand your concern. I had anterior surgery so I can only speak to what I've seen and heard with other people who had posterior. A 50 degree curve is very good compared to most people. I imagine she will have a very good correction, depending on how flexible her spine is, the more flexible it is the better the correction. The people I know who had posterior surgery were able to manage the pain fairly well. Don't hestitate to take pain meds regularly to help prevent pain from arising. Nausea could be a result of the pain meds, just depends on the person. I had the doc write me a prescription for anti-nausea drugs. After surgery, she will need help bathing and getting dressed etc. I think she'll probably be very weak and will lose strength so taking a shower and getting dressed will tire her out.
This is what I can say about posterior surgery...if she were having anterior then I could go on for forever! Let us know what the doctor says! Best of luck and remember that you do not have to fear this surgery. The surgery will be one of the best things that happens to Dani, she will grow through it and will come out of it so much more mature than other 16 year old girls. Also, the surgery will set her straight for life! She will never have to worry about her spine again and that is such a blessing! She won't become crippled like so many older individuals and those who's curve is a lot worse. Y'all will come through this and be better off in the end. Best of luck!
