I am currently 40 years old. In 1982 I had a fusion for a double curve (thoracic/lumbar) and a Harrington rod attached. I was left with two unfused lumbar joints. For the last 2 years I have been battling severe pain in the area of the unfused joints. I have been told I need to have them fused. Up until now I have refused and have tried everything imaginable to get rid of the pain, including a radiofrequency procedure to block the pain signals. I was taken off work 5 weeks ago because I can't handle the pain anymore and I'm maxed out on pain meds. I have an appointment on May 17th with a surgeon in Mpls/St. Paul to discuss what needs to be done. I am looking for some who is fused from the thoracic area to the sacrum. I live alone (happily!) and am afraid of what will happen with the loss of mobility, and how much loss there will be. How will my life change? Will I be able to live alone and take care of myself? Please email me directly if you have been thru this and can help me as I am very scared! I'm at howardhills@jun.com Thank you!
