I too am 40 years old. I had a fusion for a double curve in 1982 and a Harrington rod was used. Approx. 2 years a go I developed severe pain in the L3,4 area, basically in the only two unfused joints I have in the lumbar area. I have tried EVERYTHING and nothing has helped. The pain just keeps increasing. About 5 weeks ago I finally had to be taken off work for short term disability because I could not take the pain anymore, plus I started a new PT program that has not worked for me. On May 17th (2006) I am going to see a surgeon in Mpls/St. Paul. I was previously told I need to be fused the rest of the way down to the sacrum but I have refused, until now. Now I am willing to discuss it as I cannot even take care of my lawn or my house and I live alone. Good luck on whatever you decide. Email me if you would like to talk at howardhills@juno.com I advise finding a good doctor and doing whatever needs to be done NOW to be pain free. It will only get worse!
