Hi my name is Lisa and I am 40 yrs old - I had Harrington rod surgery in 1978 to correct a severe S curve in my thoracic area. About 3 years ago - I started having terrible lower back pain and did research and never knew until then that the Harrington rod was no longer used. I was afraid I had flat back - went to Ortho Neuro surgeon who order MRI and CT and PT for me. He explained that if I were to have a revision surgery - I would be out of work for at least 3 months and I just could not afford to do that at that time. Although I never went for the MRI or CT I did do PT which helped tremendously. About two months ago I started with severe pain in my arm and back and it was more in my cervical thoracic area - it got so severe I finally went to the doctor and he saw that it appeared I had arthritis at both ends of where my rod is attached. I went for MRI of Lumbar, thoracic and last week another one for C spine and also in between both MRI's went back to the ortho neuro surgeon. I go back on the 11th to go over all my results. I have the result though and basically I have degerated discs in my lumbar that are bulging and causing mild and bilateral foraminal narrowing. My thoracic spine they could not get a good look at because of the rod. The C spine which is where I currently am in major pain at showed arthritis in my cspine causing mild and bilateral foraminal narrowing and abutment of the cord. Also it showed bulging discs at my T1 & T2. Basically, it sounds like my back is a mess - I am wondering if all of these problems are caused strictly from my Rod and if Revision surgery can stop any of these terrible changes from getting worse... I have a 18 month old baby and I am so worried.... Thanks for any input! Lisa
