I tend to get alot of 2 tops, and folks with children (I dont mind kids really, but tips are a little lower) while I notice alot of the other servers will get 4 tops alot. When I mentioned this to a member of the kitchen staff he said to me it's because I dont pay the host! WTF Im supposed to bribe the host to get tables? No freakin way. They are supposed to be fair, count covers, and go around the restaraunt in order so that it is fair and even. I know for a fact that is not the case, it cant be. The same people cant be that unlucky all the time. When I mentioned this to a manager when I heard the same rumor a couple of weeks ago he said it is not done and if he found out the servers and host would be gone. How can everyone else know and not him? I refuse to bribe a host to do thier job. They get payed. If they want more money they can become servers. This pisses me off if true. Opinions? So I think I will just keep pushing for more bar shifts. No host to bribe, we alternate tables during the week, and try to be fair about covers....ie. " You only got a 2 top and I got an 8, so why dont you take the next table?" There are a couple of greedy table hogs in the bar, but Im learning to deal with them, and the tips are better so I think im better off, at least I have some controll over my fate. Gracie
Okay so I love my job. Anyone here knows this if you have been here for any length of time. I have been told of something lately that bothers me though and I wanted to get your imput.
In my restaraunt we have sections. There is one section in particular that is coveted by the servers because it has 5 booths and many customers want to sit there. So what ends up happening is to get to my section (which is up a couple of stairs, and only has 4 half booths) you have to pass by these 4 premium booths. So needless to say I (or whoever is in this section) gets screwed over constantly because all these people whine "can we sit here? we dont want to sit up there!" So the server with the primo section (always the same 2 or 3 servers) get all these tables, and I get squat. This same server who gets the primo section also gets the open to close shift and makes mega bank. I will look over and this server will have at least 6 tables going, and I will have like 3. We have sugested to management that they take the 2 booths closest to the upstairs section and make it part of that section so the other server has a chance to make a little money, especially since we will only be there maybe 2 or 3 hours anyway when the person with the primo section will be there from 4PM to 10 or 11 PM. They did this 2 or three times, then last night sure enough they didnt and Im screwed again.
