I have worked at restaurants where there were regulars who left nothing...I recall a lady who ate at Suburban Diner regularly and "didn't believe in tipping"...we didn't believe in giving her fresh coffee....she'd come in at around 3PM and get the garbage left over from noon. We also let her wait if we had other tables.Once she forgot her wallet. It was returned.....minus the cash.
Our restaurant also has an autograt policy of 18% on tables of 8 or more.(Personally, I think it should be based on the amount of the check, not the number of customers.)When I am afforded the opportunity to autograt, I always do.....if someone wants to leave more, they will.
