I had probably one of the worse weekend in my life.
Like I said before I work in San Diego in an italian restaurant on the main strip. Besides the fact that most people here are amateurs and not very good tippers , let s be honest, the place I work at sucks. There is a huge turn over of waiters and the owner/ manager is a total jackass.
Because 2 waiters quit without notice this week ( again ) I had to work a double on saturday. Came at 10 30, the floor is suposed to be clean so I can put all the chairs down and set up/ polish everything ( about 65 tables). Nothing was done until 11:10 am even though I nicely asked our wonderful kitchen to do it , they didnt seemed to care. Thanks God I polished all the silverware and glasses in the meantime even though the buser who is suposed to be here at 10 30 didnt show up until 11 00. And of course he wants his 15 % for granted. Anyways, restaurant open at 11 30, of course nothing is quite ready, the kitchen hasnt made any soup, I can feel it s gonna be a great lunch hehehe....People starts to be seated, of course it s all about iced water and teas and salads to split but hey at this point I am more upset by the kitchen and the management than by customers. Food takes forever....people are angry , I offered deserts to a few of them, I have to send the buser home at 1 30 pm ( owner is obssessed with saving money on payroll ) , shift ends, I make 30 bucks after tipout.
Back at 7 00 pm, shift from hell, place is packed, hostess doesnt know how to seat people, I got 2 tables of 2, one table of 4 and one table of six at the same time. Bartender didnt show up ( at this point I am just laughin ) so a waitress is bartender and she is taking forever ( i m not blaming her and gave her 15 % ) , people wants to eat fast but there s 3 people in the kitchen...Food took an insane 50 minutes to come out, 35 minutes for salads. People walked out. Not the kitchen s fault though, they are understaffed.
I made 140 dollars for the whole day after tipout, sold 2200 dollars...something is wrong...oh yeah people were so angry that I got tipped hardly 12 % which I understand considering the restaurant SUCKS ! THE manager refuses to offer anything, they have no sence of customer satisfaction and they dont warn people about the long wait before they seat them. I 'd be pissed too. At the end of the night after working 12 hours and having 2 meals in my stomach , my manager yells at me and tell me I should have polished the glasses and do more cleaning during my lunch shift.
Sunday morning....I am covering a shift for a waitress who got a DUI ( i SWEAR but wait it s not finished )
I am alone, no buser, no food runner ( didnt show up ) , no manager ( sleeping ). In the kitchen there s 2 guys who cant speak or understand english ( i speak some spanish but it s limited) and one old grumpy and bitter italian guy who can only say shit and ####.
I manage to put the whole place together, people starts to come, i place orders... food isnt coming out after 20 mn , i go ask them what s going on, they tell me they didnt get any order...I find the ticket in the garbage....they say " oh accident sorry sorry ". I feel the heat growing....
finally salads are out
i ask them to fire the pastas now so people dont have to wait an other hour ( lol )
i clean the plates, ask them how long it d take for the pastas , he says he has to broil the water ! i explode and ask him why he didnt broil the water BEFORE the shift starts since it s an italian restaurant and he knows he s gonna make pastas, he look at me and say " #### off !
i walk out of the place , go next door find the manager of our " sister restaurant" since my manager wouldnt pick up the phone. The kitchen refuses to talk to me. Finally the manager has the food coming out, people are served. I decided I am gonna quit, too much stress for the money i make and well since i am a NICE waiter, I decided the wine was for free and opened a nice bottle to a few tables
That was my weekend...hehehe
Now it s monday, my only day off and i am recovering on the couch
