They're coming around the final turn and the end is within sight. Sixteen teams, duking it out for two months now, at long last seeing where they land for their final shot at glory, the last hurrah for huckers, the ultimate in ultimate, the grand culmination that is: Playoffs.
Nobody has won more Tuesday night games than the mighty Black Mamba, going undefeated in intra-night play thus far. Even a strong final push by Schrute Hucks won't derail the early-week favorites from their collision course with Flow Rida, who has been riding low indeed, but is now crouched and ready to strike in pool play. They'll have their shot against Multiple Scoregasms and Swinging Huckers, who have both clinched Pool A berths (the latter by virtue of a week 4 win over DIRT), and will rematch in a game that will likely decide who can vault past the Mambas into semi-finals should the favorites falter along the way.
Pool B will be a rather colorful bunch, as Orange Quangaroos will take on WOW Pink for two consecutive weeks, though only the rematch will count for tournament credit. The true Pastel Power however, may come from Thursday, as Blue Goo will seek to upset the Orange to squeeze their way into semi's. The flamboyant foursome will likely be grounded by none other than DIRT. A Week 10 win for this earthy group over the aforementioned azure athletes will be rewarded by a chance to do it again in playoffs. A loss however, will give the comparatively pallid Wii Huck a shot to steal that berth away with a win over Flick Attack, Dropping DIRT Down to D... Pool D that is.
There lurks the Royal WEfnuk. It's still unclear as to whether the funky spelling - or should I say, the specifically non-"funk"y spelling - was just a typo or a deliberate trick by the crafty and wordy Nate Johnson and Josiah Roberts (aka "Trouble" and "<", see post below on this board) to subliminally subjugate the VOTS community into some sort of dyslexic haze, prompting us into taboo thoughts of phantom naughty words (again, see elsewhere). This much is clear though: the Fnuk is Fromidalbe, amassing a point differential rivaled only by Flow Rida (at least in terms of absolute value). Their stiffest competition will come from the winner of the Plastic Hurling Phenomenon/ Two Buck Huck showdown this Tuesday. A Plastic loss puts them squarely out of this pool and into the 4/5 game, but Two Buck could fall all the way to #6 and back into the D Pool (depending on what happens below them), earning a shot at redemption against Plastic the following week.
Pool C will be favorited by the undefeated Offshore Swilling, who, much like a cat, seems to enjoy playing with their opponents before invariably devouring them (and frequently, after devouring them as well - Swill is also undefeated at the bar). Flick Attack has already secured their spot in this part of the bracket, but the Plastic/ Jabba/ Schrute/ Two Buck ClusterHuck in the middle of the Tuesday standings is causing the other slots to be quite up for grabs. Schrute Hucks could make this easy by losing to Black Mamba, as they are predicted to do. The loss would definitively move them from Swill's projected path of destruction (frying pan) into Fnuk's (fire), leaving Jabba the Huck to fight it out in Pool C with the loser of the Two Buck Huck/ Plastic Hurling Phenomenon Week 10 game. But a Schrute win means Jabba actually has to show up to beat Flow Rida to avoid falling to the sixth seed (Pool D). Should both teams (Schrute and Jabba) win in week 10, Jabba will claim #4 and will be joined in Pool C (Swill/Flick) by either Plastic (if TBH beats PHP) or Schrute (if PHP beats TBH).
All in all, the truth is, none of it really matters. Pool play is the chance to start over and create an entirely new season. Pillars will crumble and unexpected underdogs will rise to power. Nobody knows quite how it'll all come out in the end, but as they say, that's why we play the games.
(Well, that... and the beer.... We also play the games because of the beer afterwords.... There will be beer, right?)
