Yes, Nate, you are right. You have to make the catch and lose it due to the foul for it to be a goal.
So if you are (no matter how horribly) fouled in the end zone before you actually catch it, and the foul is uncontested, you will not score but you will gain possesion...
BUT the change in 11th ed. that everyone is unaware of/having trouble remembering is that players freeze from the foul, and the D checks it in at the spot of the foul, and now the O player must walk the "live" disc to the front of the endzone and put the disc in play by tapping the disc to the ground. (In 10th ed. the disc was walked to the front of the endzone and the D checked it in there).
