So I was talking about this with Hand the other night - he claims that uncontested receiving foul in the end zone is now a goal according to 11th edition. I had always thought you tap this in at the spot of the disc, take it back to the goal line and go from there, i.e. no automatic goal. I think this is where the confusion is coming from:
1. A goal is scored when an in-bounds player catches any legal pass in the end zone of attack, and retains possession of the disc throughout all ground contact related to the catch.
2. When an in-bounds player in possession of the disc whose first ground contact will be completely within the end zone loses possession of the disc due to an uncontested foul, or lands out of the end zone due to an uncontested force-out foul (XVI.H.3.b.4), that player is awarded a goal.
So i think that second rule is actually referring to something akin to an uncontested strip and/or uncontested forceout fouls, but not your run of the mill uncontested receiving foul. I don't believe you qualify as a player "in possession of the disc" until you've caught the disc, no? And I've always thought there's that general concept of having to actually catch the disc in the endzone to get a goal.
Rule gurus out there, any thoughts?
