Fair enough, though I don't think we actually disagree. Point 2 was that we've been inconsistent (both in VOTS official gear and, correct, the policing of VOTS-gear modifications); point 3 was that while the shirts may get direct exposure, we shouldn't underestimate the exposure the web site gets. And I'm certainly not suggesting that stupidity in the past justifies stupidity in the future - just pointing out that whatever the decision process was in this case, it clearly is not one that adhered to some universally understood VOTS policy. And as such could have been benefited from being explained rather than decreed.
Really, if we need to tread so lightly because of our tenuous hold on fields, then it makes sense to be conservative in team names / league names / shirt designs / cheers / etc. But if that's the case, then why not just say so?
