Hi, I just discovered this group today and have gone back and answered some of the questions that people posted a while back, if their writers are still looking at the board.
There are two things I want to clarify, since I saw these two subjects brought up several times on this board:
1958 was the date that the Barbie doll was patented. The doll was first on the market in 1959. An early doll that has the 1958 copyright on it would also say Japan. If it says another country, it is a later edition doll.
1966 is the year that the Twist N Turn waist was patented. The TNT dolls first appeared on the market in 1967, and that style of torso was used until about the year 2000, which is about the time the Barbie with the belly button appeared. In other words, a doll with a 1966 date on her butt could have been sold anywhere from 1967 to 2000. It is not the date the doll was sold.
