A better way to judge the doll's age is by what country is listed on his/her derriere. Although there is some overlap, these are the countries in which Mattel had factories.
1959-1972 Japan
1968-mid-1970s Taiwan
1970 Mexico (Mattel would have stayed there longer but the factory burned down)
mid-1970s Korea
1978-about 1988 Philippines
late 80s, early 1990s Malaysia
mid-1990s-? China
Since I stopped collecting new merchandise in 1999, I don't know where the dolls/clothes/accessories are being manufactured since 2000.
