how to tell how old a barbie is

Hi Does anyone know how to tell what year a barbie was made ?? I always thought it was the year on their butt, but I guess not ???? can anyone lead me in the right direction ?? thanks so much LAura I also have barbie iin a beautiful and I mean beautiful wedding dress that I would like to sell but have no idea what to ask - if I can post a pic could someone possibly help me out ?? thanks again
