Robert - Don't misunderstand me, I'm all for them and anyone else participating (and getting the points for doing so!)in the SDFW calendar. I agree Joe, Eric, and Gabor are not all of the racers in the LA area, but they are the only ones who've ever expressed a true interest in getting involved. I can't imagine that they never get together with other sailors in the LB/LA area. Further, at those gatherings, I can't imagine them not talking about the racing they have participated in (specially since they keep kickin our butts
The Long Beach Windsurf Center has opted not to get involved in racing since they hosted the "Techno race" in the Summer of 01'. Jeff told me "It's just too much trouble to organize it". I don't know about any other sources of riders in their area??? As for representation, well post your NOR and go for it. That's how it works for every series/championship. You post the notice and interested parties show up (that's something that Joe could help with). When the dust settles, someone is declared the winner. Now at the Nationals, not all regions within the USWA organization get representation, but they post the notice and have the event just the same. Prior to last years "series" some people who participated never raced again and maybe they won only that one race and were crowned. I don't know, maybe this year is too late, (we've only had 2 events though???) but next year for sure. If someone in LA takes issue, let them come out and play, the more the merrier right? Being a government employee, I'm of the attitude that "Until someone says you can't do it, then it must be okay", so why not have a SoCal champ? Outside of SD & LA/LB where else in the "True geographical boundary" are you going to draw a sizable portion of riders? I agree that the LB group's participation lends itself to our cause, but as a card carrying member of USWA, I see Joe's involvement as the USWA Southwestern Region Representative as having a separate and maybe even greater benefit. That's what I meant by "beating him up". I'd like to see your/our efforts recognized by the USWA. I asked Joe when they were down here last, about the absence of "regional events" on the website, as there had been in the past. He said that USWA had not asked for dates yet, well I wasn't satisfied to hear that and have taken the time to express that to them on my own. I think his participation along with the participation of other members gives us a leg to stand on for recognition by the USWA. That in turn lends itself to the creation of a SoCal EVENT or series. Now I don't know how many USWA members we're talking about here but I imagine that if that were the only issue, most would pay dues to an organization that supports their efforts as opposed to one that doesn't (Not naming any names here but... it's true!!!). Anyway, I'm not ragging on you Robert. You've done a great job getting us together and this year is going to be a great year for SD racing regardless! I'm just a want, want, want, kind of guy. I WANT Joe to get our dates posted (to generate more awareness), I WANT to see more racing (oh my, maybe even a slalom event at Isabella???), I WANT you guys to let me win!!! LOL but seriously I just want to see this thing grown and get more fun and competitive. I let you know what I here from USWA about their abandoning the regional events schedule.
