Hi Mark,
Determining a leader through maximum points vs minimum points solves a few problems;
*A participant will be better rewarded for defeating a larger field (harder to do), than a smaller one.
*The penalty for missing a race is equivalent to 0 points, 1 less than the last place finisher, so participation is rewarded. Even for last place.
*A throw out event is no longer needed.
