We get occasional slalom races, but they are only about 3 times a year and not quite as well organized as what you are doing in San Diego. But we are working on expanding that, some more people are getting into formula gear, so perhaps by next year it will pick up? When you are describing this process, do you mean that they cut a slot into the leading edge of the fin at the very top of the fin? When you say "base" I am thinking of the tuttle base that goes inside the board, but that would not make much sense to me.
