considering homeschooling for 13 year-old son w/Down Syndrome (Central VT)

My husband and I are planning to homeschool our 13 year-old son who has Down Syndrome. Currently a 7th grader in local public school. He is a very highly functional child and very social; however, we are not convinced that mainstreaming is going to be what's really best for him. We are wondering if there is a support group in the Barre-Montpelier-Waterbury area for parents of special-needs children. Appreciate any response. Thanks.
