Posted by Stephanie Would a "curriculum" carry any more detail than that? I am thinking of a few things. As a detail oriented person, I want to be able to SEE learning progress. I also want to make sure my curriculum and resultant learning satisfies the state. I am flapping around right now since I am in the thinking stages. So if this post does not make sense I apologize. I appreciate any thoughts you have. Thanks!

Hi there. I am strongly considering home schooling. I am thinking of going along the lines of thematic unit driven curriculum with an unschooling allowance, if that makes any sense. I do NOT want to buy a curriculum. I want to know what a curriculum looks like.
Let me know if this sounds like a "curriculum" to you. For one month we have a theme. The first month may be based on something my son (6yo) is interested in, say weather. We will explore the details of weather from a scientific perpective. We have a great book that shows us how to make an anenometer (wind measurer in case I got that wrong) and rain guage for example. We could practice writing and journaling by recording our various weather measurements. We can find stories and fingerplays (preschool daughter too) which are related to weather. We can look at historical events that were impacted by weather from the recent LA hurricanes to the past.
