Talk about overreacting! If there was no reason for so many national organizations to have age and weight bands, they wouldn't exist. I understand you have nothing other than an attempt to compare this age band to Juniors in High School, then perhaps you've lost sight of the reason why these separations exist in the first place. It is unsafe to have these young kids wrestling up outside of their age grouping. |
Another way of looking at it is to ask why you feel it's necessary to have your child get a win over someone who should never have been on the mat with them anyway? Does your wrestler need a win so bad you're willing to advocate for weaker and less capable opponents in the bracket? Silly me, I thought it would be desirable to have strong, equal opponents to challenge your wrestler, push them out of their comfort zone, and have them win the matches that test them equally. Literally, you are saying your wrestler is not good enough to have equal opponents and so you desire to pad their "win" column to the detriment of another younger opponent. How sporting.
As for the "don't have to go" pathetic argument, who will go, then? You've effectively said that unless these wrestlers and coaches accept getting sacrificed on the alter of your ego, they shouldn't participate. These younger kids are the future of this sport, and keeping parity is perhaps the best way to grow it. Taking away the opportunities for competition at tough tournaments while maintaining the age and weight bands is a fantastic way to tell future wrestlers to go somewhere else, and they will.
I have to admit, though, you're jump from twelve year old kids to Juniors was amusing. Surely you weren't serious about comparing the age gap between elementary school and middle school students to Freshmen and Juniors in high school was a bad joke, or a misquoted analogy....
