Wrestled in my first freestyle tourney last year around this time at age 45, talk about a humbling experience although I was giving up about 20 pounds or more on the other old guys..that was the excuse I made after taking 4th in a four man bracket...I respect what are kids do even more after that whooping
Wrestled Greco state here in wa when I was 40. I to was very humbled and also believe every parent involved in the sport should give a try. I do not have to ever compete again and will never forget what it was like! Couldn't get out of the pick up when I arrived back home that evening. It was fun though.
It usually only takes one tournament or live wrestling practice to learn that wrestling at 35-60 years of age is a whole lot different than 5-35. Some of those guys at Veteran Nationals or Worlds are amazingly resilient. That guy in the blue doesn't look like he could do what he did. I commend you Denny for taking that task on. I have watched other "veterans" take on the task, with varying degrees of success, but I think the one thing they all had in common was how sore they were that night and then how any joints felt the next day (or next few months).
