I agree with some of these points. One issue is that many of our younger kids, those under 14 are mainly tied to a club. Most think that these club coaches are gods gift to wrestling. Many are great people, but have no idea what being a good high school coach includes. With that, few prepare kids for anything other than wrestling. Good high school programs are prepping kids for more than technique. We at this point should be really happy with just having kids that are making it to the D1 level. There are probably 10-15 kids right now. Hopefully some of them will make their way back to our coaching ranks. If you look at a majority of the top programs in our state, their coaches were college wrestlers. It makes a big difference in their kids technique and them getting ready for actually going to school. We do need to do a better job of training together. You see it more with high school coaches than you do with clubs because they get it. Most clubs just want to post about how they won the state tournament.
