Only a few states have one state championship in wrestling: mainly the most sparsely populated states with the notable exception of California and New Jersey. My gosh, Iowa has 40% of our state's population and they have 3 divisions.
I do not necessarily disagree with you but be careful what you wish for. Large states with one state championship split their sectionals based on population. California, I think, has 10 sectional areas. Imagine if Western Washington schools participated in 6 of 8 potential sections/regions. All Yakima and Tri Cities schools could all be in one region.
Nationally, girls wrestling has grown exponentially, about 500% in the last 10 years, while boys wrestling has shrunk nationwide by 5% during the same time period (270k to 256K).
