It was the same when I sold my practice. New doc comes in, pumps in new doc energy, and practice shoots up to the levels I was doing back when I was his age. I knew I was nearing the end of my career, had slowed down and didn't feel like making the capital investments in the clinic, knowing I wouldn't be around long enough to recoup the investment. When he took over he knew he had a another 20-25 years so he invested in new equipment, new computer system with electronic records, remodeled the clinic, etc. All things that had been done in the past by me but not in a decade or so as my horizon was short. It was just getting time for me to go to the next phase of life. He is doing great and I love going into to get adjusted and see how well the practice is doing and that my legacy there is ongoing.
This web site also has a relatively short horizon and I am not sure what that will mean. I will hang on until someone comes along or I just get tired and have to hang it up. I would hate to do that but I know many docs that just had to close their practice when done for lack of a successor. I had a valuable practice and was able to avoid that. The web site is much more of a niche product so I don't really know what will happen. So many of the wrestling sites that I used to frequent around the web 20+ years ago (including in state) just disappeared as the host aged out or lost interest. I certainly hope that someone approaches me some day before that happens.
Steve Davis may be in a similar situation. He has gathered and built himself brackets for 1953-1996 and hosts them on his Washington web site. He has brackets of wrestling from the start in Washington up until the age of the Internet era when my site started to have all the brackets posted. Between the two sites we cover about 60 years of results. I hope he keeps his around as it is a wealth of history and I occasionally go on there and look at old brackets from my era. I'm not sure what he will do either but it is an inevitability that we all face.
