Basketball: Winner on to state. :01 remains and ref calls a foul. His son makes the game-winning free throw…
Football Game: Pass interference on 4th down put his kid’s team in fg range. They win as time expires…
Baseball: ump makes a call at the plate that determined the outcome…
Soccer: Foul in the box and the penalty kick wins it….
This happens in mainstream sports, it’s in the local news!
Finally, YOU OR YOUR CHILD loses in the state finals to the ref’s son due to a 50/50 call? You may argue, “this wasn’t the state final”. If so, tell me how high the stakes have to be for it to matter then? This was for the league title, but I don’t care. League titles are sometimes won in the first league match; just like state titles can be lost with a controversial call in the first match at state.
Ref was foolish. So were the all in charge who allowed it. This is absolutely not justified in other sports—wrestling has enough negative stereotypes; this craziness reinforces them.
Hopefully lessons were learned and it never happens again.
