You're correct. Some kids might be ok with attending a college with a club program and still have an opportunity to "lace up their boots". These are the kids who are already attending a school they chose, and would choose, whether there was a chance to wrestle or not.
The flip side of that coin is a wrestler wishing to continue their career and be a competitive student-athlete, rarely look to compete at a NCWA program versus another.
Also, talk with club programs and see what their retention rates are compared to JUCO, NAIA, or NCAA.
Lastly, schools can MAKE MONEY by having an affiliated program! It's a numbers game!
