The ref should have done everything in his power to control the situation without ending the kidís season like that. No one even had a clue what was going on even until the decision was made and the kid freaked out that all his hard work his entire life to get to state was gone in a flash. Heartbreaking to say the least,
Iím not excusing the behavior... especially the ďsaluteĒ. Iím just saying that I think all these kids should get the benefit of doubt if at all possibleóespecially in an intense situation like this. If he had got up disrespectfully and started cussing out the ref, thatís one thing; but that isnít close to how it played out. We watched a kid with a ton of heart not get stuck when about 9 of 10 others would have and then made a poor choice in words when he survived it while sitting on his knees regaining his breath. The entire episode that took place after should have never been. Imagine if Ref simply sped things up and just got them rolling again vs taking the kids minor frustration so personally. Letter of law vs intent of itówrong. He was one of the top kids in the state and itís a shame heís not a participant.
