The reason this didn't get done last year was because the land deal hadn't been completed for the new downtown stadium for minor league team. It was always the intentions of President and new A.D to add baseball, but to do it when a new facility was already planned. The cost to add baseball with No facility and to fully fund the cost for a new baseball field was way to high, they had to wait to join up with minor league club to make it work. Timing is perfect, city is going to foot the bill for majority of the stadium, will have minor league team, D1 baseball and minor league professional soccer as tenants as soon as the stadium is completed. Development around the stadium will happen and the city, school all benefit. The only way this could have been prevented would have been to campaign to add womens wrestling for the last 5 years. At this point it is too late. Many alumni and wrestling community ignored all the warnings. I was involved with a baseball group that presented to School President when BSU added softball. I feared then that would wrestling would be eliminated in the process. I have posted on this board that I thought this would happen, I have talked to fellow HS coaches in the valley. Nobody believed me that this could happen. As a former BSU wrestler, I'm sad it happened, but understand the business side of what led to this decision. If you are involved with a wrestling program out west you had better have donors with big pockets, an endowed program or womens wrestling or this will happen. It could be baseball, Lacrosse, or Men's soccer, but wrestling will always be the first to be looked at to get eliminated. JMHO
