They key is when is the culture taken. Meaning, If a wound looks infected and your culture is from a week ago, it very well could be infected. A culture needs 3-5 days of growth to rule out infection. If you have a positive skin culture you should have another culture if the wound is NOT healing to ensure the antibiotics are working. You can't just take a culture at skin checks and look under a microscope it doesn't work that way. Parents also should not be in the practice of obtaining skin check forms from a team parent that is a doctor---without a clinic appointment! It makes the form and process appear very shady. These assessments should be completed by physicians that actually address contagious skin diseases. Furthermore, if you have psoriasis or eczema on your face and neck you should be examined and treated by a dermatologist NOT a podiatrist
