I would recommend that coaches push their league/district to have a doctor on site during weigh-ins. At a minimum, for the first day. Don't leave it up to a bunch of referees who are not doctors to have to make a decision on something for which they are not expert. For the best interests of everyone involved, this one, small step could make a huge difference.
Referees have to balance the interests of all of the competitors. Feeling sorry for one kid who might be ruled ineligible may not outweigh the desire to protect 100 other wrestlers from exposure to something which might eliminate them the following week. So, if a doctor is present, that will be a big relief for your referees to refer questionable situations to a professional doctor, and then, hopefully no one gets mistakenly eliminated and/or we catch something legitimate before it can be spread to others.
