Posted by Pego on 10/13/2005, 6:05 pm Can anyone tell me if this sounds sensible? I'm in fairly good shape but I'm inexperienced at backpacking. The walks are described as moderate, lasting 3 to 5 days. (New Zealand's "Great Walks" for anyone who knows them). My idea is to do one walk a week, with some time to recuperate between walks. I want to camp wherever possible but the camping equipment (tent, stove, fuel etc.) obviously adds a lot to the weight. Can anyone tell me whether or not I'm being foolhardy? I do want to push myself but I don't want to cause myself an injury.

I'm planning on doing a series of walks in New Zealand and have just weighed my backpack at 60 lbs (27.2 kilos).
