If you haven't left yet, I strongly recommend that you keep your pack as light as possible. When I've been in Ecuador, I've always seen travelers struggling with heavy packs on busses. The city busses don't even come to a complete stop half the time. My last trip to Ecuador was for six weeks, and included going up to the snow in the mountains, as well as going out dancing. Still, I was able to carry my pack easily (even on the plane) as it was only 10 pounds. If you are planning on camping, you'll have more gear, of course, but the lighter the better if you want to keep it with you all the time.
